Application Context
Church Wood is a private residential project in Lytham St Annes, UK, combining contemporary architecture, refined interiors and fully integrated smart home technology.
The property includes a large open-plan kitchen and living area, expansive glazing and a clean modern interior design. The automation system therefore needed to provide flexible control of lighting, heating, shading and other home systems, while keeping wall-mounted controls discreet and visually coordinated with the interiors.
Client’s requirements
The client required a whole-home automation system that could simplify control across the property and reduce the number of separate switches, dimmers, thermostats and control points.
Key requirements included lighting control, heating and air conditioning control, automated blinds, garden irrigation, audio-visual integration, networking and Wi-Fi. In the main open-plan living spaces, the system needed to support precise dimming, scene-setting and intuitive day-to-day use without disrupting the clean architectural aesthetic.
Ekinex Solutions
The project uses a KNX infrastructure with Ekinex 20Venti control keypads throughout the property. The keypads allow multiple lighting circuits to be controlled from a single wall-mounted device, with custom lighting scenes recalled at the touch of a button. Integrated temperature sensors within the keypads also reduce the need for separate thermostats, helping to maintain a clean and uncluttered wall layout.
The KNX system manages lighting, underfloor heating, air conditioning and garden irrigation, and is integrated with Control4 to provide a simple central interface for the wider smart home system. Automated shading and the audio-visual systems are also coordinated into the overall home automation strategy. The result is a discreet and intuitive smart home installation that supports the architectural and interior design intent while giving the homeowners simple control over comfort, ambience and everyday functionality.
