FAQ - KNX Metering
Is it possibile to measure energy consumptions?
Yes, it is, using a Meter, i.e. a device that shares detailed information about consumptions, thus allowing the user to make an assessment on his actual consumption so he can be more aware of his own expenses and decide, for example, whether to leave his devices on standby for several days.
Moreover, the meter can find electrical dispersion. It is the central device for a complete energy management in residential, commercial orindustrial buildings.

What is a network analyzer and what is the function of the Rogowski coils?
A Network analyzer is a digital measuring device able to measure and store the main parameters of a 3-phase electrical network. Its LCD provides all values related to the 3-phase network. The device is compact, has an optimal cost/performance ratio, and it is usable both as a stand alone device and as a component of a larger energy management and control network. The device can communicate through its serial port thanks to MODBUS ASCII/RTU protocol.
A Rogowski coil is an electrical device for measuring alternate and impulsive current. The main advantage offered by a Rogowski coil compared to other measuring methods (current transformers, TA, etc.) is the flexibility and deformability of the probe, thus allowing its winding around a powered conductor without tempering with it. Moreover, since Rogowski coils are not winded on a steel core, they have a low inductance, which allows measuring time-variant current with high speed (sensors are available in lengths of 30, 45 and 70 cm).
What is the difference betwrrn RS485 Modbus and KNX communication modules?
The RS485 Modbus communication module allows the collection and transmission to a remote station of the values measured by a connected meter. These data are sent over a RS485 line, using Modbus RTU or ASCII protocol. The KNX communication module allows the collection and transmission to are mote station of the values measured by a connected meter. These data are sentover a bus line, using KNX protocol.
What is an energy meter and what is the difference between 6A 3-phase, 80A 3-phase and 80A 1-phase?
Energy meters are meant to calculate the active energy absorbed by an electrical circuit. They allow estimating the actual costs of anapartment or a heating circuit, quantifying the energy used by a device (e.g. measuring the energy produced by renewable sources such as solar, wind, etc.).
The difference between the 4-modulethree-phase 6A and 80A is the connection: the former is suitable for TA from 1 to 5A, while the latter for direct connections up to 80A. The 1-phase80A energy meter is suitable for direct connections up to 80A but has only 2 modules.
